How to Buy a Bus Ticket

Estimated time: 3 minAudience: Customers

Learn how to find bus operators, compare routes, and contact them to book your journey.

Intercity travel on Funafuna starts with Transport → Bus Tickets. Compare operators, then WhatsApp or call to lock in your seat, pickup point, and fare.

Steps

  1. Open Funafuna

Go to funafuna.com or open the Funafuna app on your phone.

You can search from the home screen or open Explore to browse mini-apps.

  2. Tap Transport

Open Explore and choose Transport, or use home quick links when Transport is shown.

The Transport mini-app helps you find buses, taxis, boda boda, and other ways to get around.

  3. Select Bus Operators

On the Transport screen, tap Bus Tickets (or Intercity Bus) to browse bus operators and routes.

You can also search from the Transport search bar — try a destination (for example Livingstone) or a company name.

  4. Search by destination or company

Enter where you are going or the name of a bus company you prefer.

Review the list of operators and routes. Tap a card to see more detail before you contact anyone.

  5. Open the operator profile

Tap an operator to open their public profile.

Check departure information, routes, contact buttons, and any notes the operator has added about bookings and payment.

  6. Contact the operator

Use the buttons on the profile to reach the operator:

    • WhatsApp — message to ask about seats, times, and price (most common on Funafuna)
    • Call — speak directly if you prefer voice

Funafuna opens WhatsApp or your phone dialler with the operator’s number — you confirm the booking with them directly.

  7. Confirm your trip details

Before you travel, agree with the operator on:

    • Departure time — date and time of the bus
    • Pickup point — station, rank, or roadside stop
    • Price — fare per seat or any luggage fees
    • Payment method — cash, mobile money, or pay at the station

Save the operator’s number or save the business for your return trip.

  8. Complete your booking

Once you and the operator agree, follow their instructions — pay as directed, arrive early at the pickup point, and bring any ID they require.

Funafuna helps you find and contact operators; the final ticket and payment happen with the bus company directly.
